In 1946, Grandpa Melvin Raskin opened Raskin’s Jewelers in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The store was located at Central and Adams, in the heart of Phoenix. His son Lynn Raskin, the second generation, opened his second Raskin’s Jewelers in Prescott, Arizona, on September 23, 1963. My father is the third generation of Raskin’s. I joined him in business in 1991. We are located in Prescott’s historic center and offer fine jewelry.

Greg Raskin is the business’s third generation. He comes from a family of jewelers. He was born in Prescott, Arizona, and raised there. He graduated from Prescott High School in 1984 and received his degree in business administration from the University of Arizona, Tucson. After college, he moved to Washington D.C. and worked as a corporate sales representative for AAFES. Greg joined his father’s family jewelry business in 1991. For his jewelry training, he attended the Gemological Institute of America.

8. The Humiovi

Named Hoo-meoo-vee, the store has been owned and operated locally in Sedona, Arizona, for more than 30 years. Hopi Tribe licenses them. They have been located at the corner of Jordon Road and 89A since the 1970s.

Named after the Hopi Tribe, the store’s name was taken. The name Humiovi means “Little Seed That Sprouts,” which is exactly what The Humiovi had done since 1994 when owners Bob Robinson and Ann Robinson purchased the store. They have built personal relationships with artists they purchase directly from and turn the business into an extended family affair with their daughters and granddaughters, as well as a great-granddaughter who works at the store.

Northern Arizona is home to the Hopi and Navajo reservations. It is three hours from Sedona. The Humiovi house’s collections are from renowned Hopi artists like Augustine Mowa Jr., Todd Hoyungowa, Sparks Masawytewa.
